The MV Sjøveien was built in 1964 in Bergen by the Norwegian government. From 1979 to 1995 she was used as a training ship for sailors. Since 1995 she has been privately owned and has been in service for the Norwegian Coast Guard for many years. Afterwards she was used as a hotel ship for a few years. Rebuilt into a classic and exclusive passenger ship for expeditions, she started her career in summer 2017 in Spitsbergen. She is a true beauty with wooden decks and classic details. The main deck offers a lot of space to take photos and enjoy. From the deck above the bridge, you have an excellent view of the magical landscape of Spitsbergen. Also outside on deck there is a wood fired whirlpool.
The MV Sjøveien has eight outside cabins for a maximum of 12 passengers, all with their own shower and toilet. The dining area on the main deck serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a lounge area where you can relax with a cup of tea or coffee and listen to the interesting lectures of the guides. You will be welcomed on board by an international crew and the bridge is open for visitors.
