Days 3-4: Crossing the Drake Passage

After passing the Fuegian Archipelago, we set sail into the Drake Passage. Known for its rough seas, the Drake Passage offers excellent opportunities to spot majestic albatrosses and other graceful seabirds of the Subantarctic. From the ship’s panoramic decks, you’ll have the perfect vantage point for watching these impressive seabirds. We will also cross the Antarctic Convergence, marking the transition to the Southern Ocean. Equipped with stabilizing fins, the ship ensures a smooth ride, even in choppy waters. We aim to reach the South Shetland Islands by the evening of the second sea day.

Days 5-8: Discovering the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula

In the following days, we explore the fascinating South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. These areas boast some of the planet's most breathtaking landscapes and offer the best wildlife-watching opportunities in Antarctica. Majestic icebergs, snow-covered mountain peaks, and vast glaciers provide a stunning backdrop. This region is teeming with wildlife, from penguins to seals and seabirds. Of particular interest are the penguin colonies, where we visit selected sites to observe large breeding populations.

The South Shetland Islands mark our first landfall and are of great historical significance. On Elephant Island, the men of Ernest Shackleton's famous Endurance Expedition spent the winter of 1916. In the Gerlache Strait, on the western Antarctic Peninsula, we experience untouched wilderness with stunning landscapes and an abundance of wildlife. Here, you’ll have the rare opportunity to set foot on the Antarctic continent.

This region is famous for its penguin species, including Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Adelie penguins. Watching penguin chicks as they gradually gain independence is an especially fascinating experience. Whale watching is also highly rewarding at this time of year, with humpback and dwarf whales often engaging in playful interactions with Zodiac boats and kayaks. In addition to the penguins, you may also spot various seal species and a wide range of seabirds.

Days 9-10: At Sea – Heading to South Georgia

After Antarctica, we make our way to our next destination – South Georgia. Over the coming days, enjoy the vast ocean and its creatures, while our onboard lecturers and experts hold engaging talks about the region’s nature and history. Once again, you’ll have excellent opportunities to spot seabirds, like albatrosses, from the ship’s outer decks.

Days 11-14: South Georgia – A Wildlife Paradise for Expedition Travelers

The next five days are dedicated to exploring South Georgia, one of the richest wildlife regions on the planet. This Subantarctic island is home to over 100 million seabirds, including the magnificent wandering albatross, the largest flying bird in the world. You’ll have the rare opportunity to witness these majestic birds during their breeding season.

On the beaches of South Georgia, enormous colonies of king penguins gather, stretching all the way to the glacier-capped mountain slopes. At this time of year, macaroni penguin chicks are getting ready to venture into the sea. The decline of whaling has also led to the return of large whale species to the waters around South Georgia.

In addition to the fascinating birds, penguins, and whales, South Georgia offers numerous hiking and kayaking opportunities that complement the wildlife experiences. The legendary Shackleton Walk is a particularly recommended hike, following in the footsteps of the famous explorer.

Days 15-16: At Sea – Falkland Islands in Sight

We now set sail north towards the Falkland Islands. During the journey, our lecturers will prepare you for the upcoming region, and you can enjoy the time observing the sea and its inhabitants as we approach our next destination.

Days 17-18: Falkland Islands – Discovering a Wild Island World

We anchor in Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, and take in the charming atmosphere of the town. Along the waterfront, you’ll find sights like the Falkland Islands Museum and the Christ Church Cathedral, which is known for its unique walkbone arches.

Next, we visit Gypsy Cove, a protected area renowned for its birdlife. Magellanic penguins and sea lions are commonly spotted here. On the nearby islands, you’ll see impressive seabird colonies and young penguins learning to fend for themselves. The coastal waters also offer the chance to spot Peale’s dolphins and orcas.

Days 19-22: South Atlantic Ocean – On Our Way to Buenos Aires

We continue our journey north through the South Atlantic. This section of the voyage offers more opportunities to spot whales and dolphins as we approach Buenos Aires.

Day 23: Arrival in Buenos Aires, Argentina

After disembarking in Buenos Aires in the early afternoon, we offer a group transfer to either Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) or a central location in Buenos Aires. Be sure to plan enough time for your return flight, and we recommend booking a flight no earlier than 7:00 PM.
