Svalbard Tour
Svalbard Tour
Spitsbergen has a diverse history. Not only whalers and fur hunters have traveled here, but also world-famous polar explorers such as Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Umberto Nobile. Countless expeditions to explore and study the far north were launched from here and the first successful flight to the North Pole with the famous airship Norge was also launched from Spitsbergen. We visit these historic sites such as Ny Alesund, Virgohamna and Kvitoya, where polar bears, reindeer and Arctic foxes live. We explore the Norwegian archipelago, consisting of over 400 small islands, in depth. Every day we go ashore, explore the natural surroundings on foot and with the Zodiacs and get to know the ecology and history of the archipelago in depth. Discover the extraordinary diversity of Spitsbergen for yourself!

First day: Arrival at Longyearbyen. Overnight in a hotel.
Second day: Embarkation and start of the expedition.
Third to penultimate day: On expedition cruise... Ice, weather and wildlife observation will determine the route.
Last day: Disembarkation at Longyearbyen and return home.
The first highlight of the tour is the former mining town Longyearbyen. In summer the sun does not set and the nights are bright as day. Here you can discover the first animal inhabitants of the Arctic, for example the Spitsbergen-Ren. This subspecies of the reindeer is smaller and only occurs on Svalbard.
Snowmobiles parked in the front garden give you a first impression of the completely different culture and way of life in this unique region.
In the Svalbard Museum you can learn more about 400 years of natural and cultural history.
The day begins with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel. While your luggage is being transported to the ship, you can take part in an interesting city tour and learn more about the history and culture of the northernmost city in the world.
A highlight is a visit to the North Pole Expeditions Museum. There you can refresh your knowledge about the daring North Pole expeditions and get in the mood for the historical places you will visit during the cruise.
Afterwards, you will have free time to have lunch in one of the cozy cafés or restaurants in Longyearbyen or to do some last-minute shopping. A good jacket and waterproof shoes are not on the shopping list. You will receive your expedition parka and waterproof boots on board the Sea Spirit on the first evening.
In the afternoon you will board your expedition ship for the first time. Get to know the MS Sea Spirit and move into your well-equipped cabins. After the ship has sailed, your arctic adventure will start. You will leave civilization behind and have a last look at the colorful scenery of Longyearbyen. The Sea Spirit crosses the Isfjord and sets course for the high arctic!
